When we decided to visit Vancouver, the first thing on our list was to make sure that we found a hotel near downtown, that it was specious for our family of four, close to many of the attractions that we wanted to see and that it had all the amenities necessary all in one place. Let me tell you that the Fairmont Waterfront checked all those boxes and more.
From the moment we arrived at the Fairmont Waterfront, we knew that we had made the right choice. Driving up to the hotel, we were amazed at not only the location but the view. It is situated right across the beautiful harbor and close to not only many attractions but it was easy to find public transportation as needed.
When we walked in through the front door, we were in awe at how beautiful the hotel was, we happened to go during the Christmas holiday season so the hotel was decorated to fit the holidays. As soon as you enter you have the amazing ARC restaurant to your right, more on that later. We were greeted by the friendly staff and check in was a breeze! Make sure to contact them ahead of time if you need to check in early or check out late, they will do everything possible to accommodate.
Shall we talk about our room? The suite that we got had an amazing harbor view where every morning we could hear and see the seaplanes taking off on their journey. It is hard to explain how soothing the sound of the seaplanes was to hear and even just standing near the huge windows enjoying a drink was very relaxing as you see the clouds over the mountains and even some snow on some peeks.
The suite was very spacious with a full living room and a sofa bed that was perfect for the girls to sleep in when they wanted their own room. it had a separate master bedroom for us and there were also 2 full bathrooms with showers which was a plus when trying to get the whole family ready to go out each day. Again, the staff is amazing at the Fairmont Waterfront, each day someone would come and see if we needed fresh water pitchers and ice, I have honestly never had that done before at any place I have stayed at. There was plenty of space for all 4 of us to spend as a family as well as have our own time when the girls wanted to watch some cartoons while we caught up on some work and planned our day.
The amenities? How about a panoramic view of downtown skyscrapers and the Harbor while you enjoy a swim in the 50 foot outdoor heated pool. There is also a jacuzzi indoors that you can enjoy. The fitness center is located right next to the pool area and there are plenty of cardio equipment machines and weights if you want to get a nice work out in during your trip. One of the most unique and special areas of this hotel is the roof top garden, which one of Vancouver’s first green roofs. And on this garden there are over 250,000 honey bees that call this place home. This was one of our favorite areas, it was so beautiful and peaceful which you wouldn’t expect in a downtown setting but there are so many plans that surround it that you feel like you are somewhere else, you can sit on a bench and enjoy a drink or a good book or look out into the harbor and enjoy the calming breeze.
When it comes to food, well the Fairmont Waterfront has you covered! You can find the ARC restaurant on the first floor and they are serving up some delicious food that will have you coming back for more. From the moment you step inside the restaurant you are presented with beautiful decor and a very relaxing and warm reception. The look and style of the restaurant is one you will want to see over and over. We had an amazing dinner at the ARC, we enjoyed everything from steak, burgers and chicken strips for the little ones, they also showcase the very best that British Colombia has to offer. Some of the things we loved is that they have live music nights where they have local Vancouver artists drop by while you wine and dine, they also offer a great happy hour menu and a bottomless weekend brunch that everyone will enjoy.
What is it that people say? Location, Location, Location! The Fairmont has that as well, it in not only near the harbor but also downtown Vancouver. You can literally walk to a lot of local attractions and eateries. We loved just walking around and exploring on our own, seeing what Vancouver had to offer. Some of the places that we were able to walk to were: The FyOver Canada experience, where you take flight and visit some of the best locations Canada has, the Gastown Steam Clock which is an antique style clock that is powered by steak and it whistles to tell the time and the Vancouver Lookout which provides a 360 degree view of Downtown Vancouver and beyond. One place that we had to visit was the Capilano Suspension Bridge and there is a convenient free shuttle that stops right across from the Fairmont, you have no idea how great of a perk that is.
We absolutely loved our family trip to Vancouver and the Fairmont Waterfront was the perfect place for us to stay on our first ever trip to Canada. The staff is amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay even special. They even made sure Abigail felt super special after she lost her first tooth with a very thoughtful letter. Thank you Fairmont Waterfront for being part of our amazing Canada family adventure. We can’t wait to come back and explore even more.
