There is something about San Diego that simply brightens my day! San Diego seams to always have the perfect weather! I love that San Diego has a little bit of everything for everyone. From beaches, theme parks, Petco Park, local hikes, restaurants, breweries, outlets and breath taking flower fields, there is simply so much to explore in beautiful San Diego. Last weekend we decided to explore San Diego and make a weekend out of it. Let me share with you the perfect hotel we stayed at for our weekend getaway.
We stayed at Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel. The rooms were nice and clean, they gave us all the beach vibes. These rooms were newly renovated and I must say they did a great job. Our room had two Queen beds and a private balcony with a pool view. The beds were very comfortable, so comfortable that my twins fell asleep within minutes which I will say is not an easy task lol. Our room sleeps up to four guests comfortably, it had Wi-Fi access, a 32-inch TV with on screen entertainment. It also had all the necessary amenities like iron and ironing board, hairdryer, coffeemaker, and mini refrigerator for your convenience. It was nice to wake up to pool views as I drank my morning coffee and enjoyed the sea breeze and San Diego sunshine.
Did I mention my family and I enjoyed the beautiful pool! I know you may be thinking, pool fun in January? Well, the pool was heated! We woke up early in the morning when the pool opened and the water was nice and warm. We had a lot of fun while being surrounded by palm trees in the center of the hotel. Make sure to go to the lobby before going to the pool to ask the receptionist for some towels. They also have a spa but unfortunately it was closed during our stay.
Everyone knows that it is always about location, location, location! Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel is nested in the perfect location. If there is something you want to explore, it is definitely close to this hotel. Right across the street, and I mean right across the street, you have the Carlsbad premium outlets! every girls dream. The outlets have more than 90 designer and name brand outlet stores for your shopping needs. We definitely took a visit for a quick shopping spree. Right next to the outlets you have one of the most beautiful places that we have visited as a family, the Flower Fields of Carlsbad. If you have not visited this place you must make a trip out when the flowers bloom. Until you experience it for yourself, you won’t be able to appreciate the beauty of the rows and rows of colorful flowers. What about theme parks? Well Legoland California is less than a mile away and the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service. No need to pay for parking when you can be dropped off from your hotel, if you feel like walking, you can be there in 10-15 minutes. SeaWorld San Diego and the San Diego Zoo are also near by, both locations are about 30 minutes away from the hotel.
Food!! We cant forget about food. There are many dinning options in the area but our favorite was by far the Windmill food hall that is right next to the hotel. If you are feeling hungry and don’t know what to eat, then this is the place for you, with over 10+ restaurants you are sure to find something for the whole family. You can exit the hotel doors and walk right towards the windmill. The aesthetics alone are worth the trip. There is a beautiful windmill outside the hall that blends in to the décor that makes a perfect backdrop for pictures. There are so many food options that it was hard to chose. You want pizza? they have Craft Pizza. You want Mediterranean? They have Mediterranean House. You want your morning coffee with a delicious dessert? They have Corner Coffee.
But our favorite place by far was El Puerto, they serve some delicious Mexican food that we will definitely be back to try. We had their carne asada fries, which were covered in cheese, sour cream and guacamole. They were delicious and a good option to share. For the girls we got their shredded beef rolled tacos which were crunchy and full of meat. The guacamole and cheese on top was the perfect touch. But the item that we were most excited to try were their birria tacos! Anyone that knows my husband knows how much he enjoys birria and he is on the hunt to find some of the best birria he can find. The Birria tacos were full of meat and wrapped in a freshly handmade tortilla, the consome was delicious and the perfect addition so we can dip our tacos. No Birria taco is complete without some consome to dip in and then drink, highly recommend that you do this. They had so many food options but by the end of the night we were stuffed. Thank you to the El Puerto staff who was amazing and helpful when we asked for recommendations. They really made it easy for us to pick the right items for our family.
As much as we enjoyed the stay, we had to say goodbye to the Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel. We had an amazing experience staying here and were not looking forward to leaving. The staff was amazing and extremely helpful from check in to check out. No matter how great the hotel is, the staff can make or break your decision to return and we will definitely be coming back when we plan our Legoland trip and our Carlsbad flower trip when the flowers are finally blooming.

I have drive by the Windmill before and didnt know all this was inside. My family would love to try the Mexican food.
Will have to do a trip soon.
Thank you.
The food looks delicious at El puerto. My husband loves birria too and wants to try it.
Thanks for the tip.
Your girls are beautiful! I’m glad you all had a great time in San Diego.
We stayed in San Diego a few years ago and loved it! Although we did an Airbnb instead of a hotel, I would definitely consider this one next time!
That sounds like a great place to visit. It’s pretty, clean, and has a lot of amenities plus the food looks really delicious!
San Diego is one of the places I’d love to visit. I’ll keep this hotel idea in mind when we do plan our family trip in a couple of years.
Sounds like a great place to visit . Than you !
